Facebook is all of these things, and so much more.
How many annoying invites to join your mafia or water your garden do you have to send me? While I may be a stay at home mom, and clearly you think I don't have anything to do all day long (and maybe I don't) I still don't want to play farmville
Now that I have a facebook profile, people keep finding me. They send you invitations to be their "friends." Let's be honest about this- it's awkward, right? Oh, hey like we were in the same third grade class and I sat behind you, we never spoke but let's be facebook friends? Um, I'm gonna pass.
Instead, I have to post pictures and announce my relationship status, and list all of my family and friends- and oh- update everyone regularly on my happenings!
Reading some people's status updates is like watching paint dry...boring! "scratching my ass" "grocery shopping" "can't think of anything to say, but wanting to post here anyway"
Really? Facebook is the internet's NUMBER ONE time-sink!
And that brings me to the last dangerous aspect of Zuckerberg's social experiment- your ex is on facebook.
It's understandable that locked away in some part of our minds we all have a secret compartment, a tiny area that rarely gets triggered because it's all in the past. A past that we shared with someone else. BEFORE we were married. Before we had children.
With websites like facebook our past is easily accessible- too easily for some. Old boyfriends come out of the woodwork, and in some cases women are like termites, going in search of their past flames.
The thinking is that catching up with an ex is okay- but would you have picked up the telephone to catch up if facebook didn't exist? Taking this first step, is just that A FIRST STEP.
Flirting online is the beginning of an emotional affair. Where do you intend to go from there? Once you put your words out into cyberspace, they are forever out there.
So the question that I put out there today is, was he worth it?

I was never a very popular person, so I haven't had the same issues with Facebook :) But I have contacted and been contacted by a couple of exes. My husband thinks it's funny. Most of their wives are not amused. lol But nothing has 'happened'.
Yeah - the status updates are very annoying. I have a "friend" that will put .......
just to have her name pop in the thread. And another "friend" who rants about how stupid people are...or about her husband that made her mad.
great post!
i just wrote a post few days ago about facebook.you can check it out..
you are right on what you wrote.
GREAT POST.
Facebook can be used in many ways but it is surprising to me how many people are on it. I can honestly say I don't use it very much but when I do check it out it blows my mind how much time people waste on it playing games and such. I personally like it when (I'm being sarcastic) people write on there how they just got home, went to the bathroom and am now making dinner. These play by plays. Its like a soap opera.
I am following you from the hop. Please return the follow if you like at http://thecryptocapersseries.blogspot.com

My favorite status updates are the ones that leave you guessing "I can't believe this is happening" and other crap like that! My husband finds it funny that I have old boyfriends on there - Nothing of consequence, but, as my friends used to tease me, I went through them like tissues!! I find myself less and less on Facebook and more and more on the blogging sights. Definately more interesting stuff around here!!
I just read through a few of your posts, and I love your blog! (Especially the "where babies come from" one... agreed on how kids shouldn't be kept in the dark!)
I'm a new follower through the Type A housewife blog hop. I'd love if you followed back. :)
Ha! Oh, Facebook....it is a train wreck of addiction. I love it....and then I randomly hate certain people that are on it....and trying to be witty or be my friend.
It's okay, I'm sure some people on FB feel the same way about me. :)
I totally get you on the ex boyfriend thing...I have found a few and then promptly deleted them. Mistake! My husband doesn't have a FB but I can tell you that I would not apporve of him finding his old skanks on there...little bit of a double standard I know. :)

I totally agree with the who Facebook thing.New follower from A hop, and I'd love it if you could swing through and follow me back. http://realadventuresfromamomof3.blogspot.com/
My issue with facebook is that some bloggers just have a personal page for facebook and it doesn't accept the "like" from a facebook webpage. I don't want people I don't know on my personal facebook page. I find that awkward.
Happy Thirsty Thursday. I'm following you.

I have a love/hate relationship with FB! Some days I hate it and won't go near it and other days I find so many interesting things. Sometimes I feel like a gossip telling my husband about someone and what they're doing because of their post. Oh, and those people who play the games and ask you to buy them some animals - what's up with that? Anyway, I digress, following you from the hop! Would love to have you follow me at http://nonasnotes.blogspot.com
Yea....I think fb is annoying for the most part! LOL
Thanks so much for stopping by! I'm following you back! Hope you have an awesome weekend!

Thank you for swinging by 2 Against 1 , be sure to stop by and link up to the TGIF blog hop (Friday).
So enjoyed reading this post.. Your too funny.. I AGREE WITH IT ALL...
Like someone else above wrote, I have a love/hate relationship with Facebook. It really works for someone like me who has moved a few times and has friends all over the US and in a few different countries. It's an inexpensive way to stay in touch and have a few laughs. Still, it can be a time waster too. I was sucked in for awhile, but have had too much to do lately!
Following you from the TGIF Hop and hoping you can return the love.

TGIF! Love this post. I must admit, I go back and forth. I even got addicted to the games a couple of years ago (Insomnia) I now limit myself 1 day to fully catch up.

Hi ~ new GFC follower from the Give it to me Tara Weekend Hop
Stop over for a visit to Mommy's Moments at http://www.avonbykaren.blogspot.com
Thanks, Karen
Hey, thank you so much for following Mommy LaDy Club! I struggle with Facebook too, but use it mostly for business. I'm much more comfortable posting a product photo and a thank you to a customer, and talking about business things, than posting anything on my personal status. Most of the time, I post something and then delete it. I just don't know what to say that has any relevance and doesn't feel so awkward? I tend to like and comment and support others only, and never post. Facebook may be on its way out?? Love your blog--adding it to my list!
~Courtney
Hey there already following you but wanted to say hi I TRY to be careful with what I put on FB but sometimes you reveal more about yourself than you want to
I am following you now from the Finding New Friends Weekend Blog Hop. Your blog is amazing - I can't wait to read more.
I agree with so many of the comments, facebook is a double edged sword. In so many ways, it keeps me up to date with old friends and distant family members...but the games, ugh. I just block them all so I don't have to read through all the crap and totally ignore all the "requests".
I really strongly feel that flirting online is a serious mistake. Catching up with an ex isn't ok if you wouldn't do it with your significant other sitting right there. It's the first step down a slippery slope.
I never friend ex's so I don't have that problem!
I just ignore the game requests & I've played them but never ask anyone to play :p
Following from Friday Link up :)
Hop! Please foolw Thank You!

I agree...fb is a HUGE time suck!! I'm trying to cut back...I don't even enjoy it that much!
I'm your newest follower...would love if you'd like to follow me back!
I just deleted my facebook 2 weeks ago. It caused way too many issues between my sister and I. Issues we didn't need facebook making worse. There are people that I will miss, and maybe one day I will return. In the meantime, I am content not letting facebook drain my life away.
Following you from the Saturday Blog Hop.

Hi, I'm your newest follower over from Surfin' Saturday blog hop.
Hope you can stop by sometime.

I hate facebook for the most part. I'm rarely on and when I am it is to talk to my friends in Germany (where I used to live). Too many people turn it into a popularity contest.

I like FB. It's helped with networking locally and across the nation. The block button is a handy dandy little tool.
Surfed on in and following. Please visit us at www.theoldblockhouse.blogspot.com
I like FB and reconnecting with people. My wife and kids are safe though. I've never BEEN with anyone I'd want to leave them for.
FB is also good for making new contacts and rekindling lost relationships with old buddies.
All my best,
Clayton

I think FB (and communication online in general) really show people's manners. I'm shocked at some of the things people send and post. I love reconnecting with friends, but sadly, I've lost respect for a few of them.
I'm a new follower from the Blog Hop. I'd love it if you'd drop by A Helicopter Mom and follow me back!
Thanks!

Whenever we look at the word the expression like, not only in relations to an intimate partnership along with another, yet as the experience that is definitely engendered for those who have miltchmonkey a much better partnership with ourselves far too , and even as being a a sense larger oneness with the family or simply humankind ( space ) this becomes even more crystal clear that any one wants in your daily course is certainly like.
